Proposal: Modernize ANG C-130Js with Increased Wing Fuel and External Fuel Tanks
Recommendation: The C-130J Hercules faces increasing demands on its fuel capacity due to the complexities of modern warfare, particularly in the INDOPACOM theater. The need for enhanced fuel capacity and delivery is critical for rapid global mobility, navigating the vast distances of INDOPACOM, supporting Agile Combat Employment (ACE), increasing payload delivery, and reducing fuel stops. To address these challenges, the C-130J requires both Increased Wing Fuel (IWF) and external fuel tanks. IWF increases internal fuel capacity and range, while external tanks provide additional capacity and delivery flexibility. Equipping all ANG C-130Js with both IWF and external fuel tanks is a crucial investment, directly addressing capability gaps and ensuring the C-130J's continued relevance. This modernization is essential for maintaining the aircraft's critical role in National Guard support of state and federal missions. Recommend to fully fund Increased Wing Fuel (IWF) modifications for all ANG C-130J aircraft and fully fund the acquisition and integration of external fuel tanks for all ANG C-130J aircraft. This will ensure that the ANG C-130J fleet possesses the necessary fuel capacity and delivery capabilities to meet the demands of modern operations.
