Recommendation:
The ARNG is scheduled to field 2 BN’s of AH-64E with Version 4.5 software. Version 4.5 aircraft have a multi-core mission processor and 7th Aircraft interface unit (AIU) not equipped in legacy Version 4 and earlier AH-64E versions. V4.5 aircraft still lack the following capabilities of the AH-64E Version 6 in COMPO 1: Improved Fire Control Radar providing extended range for detection and engagement as well as maritime and UAS targeting capabilities, Modernized Radar Frequency Interfrerometer (RFI) (ASE) which includes Maritime threat detection and passive ranging/target geolocation improvements, Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Site Day side assembly (M(TADS)DSA) which provides extended video detection ranges and high definition color video, Expanded Manned/Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T X) which provides extended ranges, additional bands and the ability to control UAS flight and sensor functions by assuming Level of Interoperability (LOI) 4, Cognitive Decision Aiding System (CDAS),Improved Radio Navigation (RNAV/VNAV), Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN) and Required Navigation Performance capability, and Maritime Frequencies for the ARC-231 radio. AH-64E Version 6.5 software will bring the software side of these improvement to V4.5 aircraft as soon as FY’26, however required hardware for MUM-T X, MDSA, FCR and M-RFI will not be purchased or fielded to additional Army AH-64E v4 units.
