Proposal: That Army National Guard Infantry Brigade Combat Teams receive proportional and concurrent fielding of Handheld, Manpack, and Small Form Fit (HMS) tactical radios
Recommendation: The Army is currently fielding Handheld, Manpack, and Small Form-Fit radios to selected Infantry Brigade Combat Teams. These radios include the Leader Radio (AN/PRC148(v)6 and AN/PRC163(v)2 radios) and Manpack Radio (AN/PRC158 and AN/PRC162 radios). These radios provide Infantry Brigade Combat Teams with interoperable communications to the tactical edge with on the move, at the halt, and stationary line of sight/beyond line of sight capabilities for dismounted units. These radios enable voice communications as well as data service such as text, control graphics, imagery, and video to the tactical edge. These capabilities will significantly enhance overseas and domestic missions. Currently, the Army National Guard is not programmed to receive these radios and will be forced to operate legacy radios.
